DrP Thread Starter. Joined Jul 23, Messages Hi there I've been struggling through this for months I've got a Netgear WGR v7 wireless router connected to a cable modem.
In the house, we have a basic 2yo Dell laptop, this desktop, sometimes we have my laptop and sometimes we have my PDA. However, despite the other three having rock solid connections which are always on, the desktop loses its connection at random intervals. Running the desktop on XP or Vista still resulted in the connection disappearing after variable amounts of time. With XP, it could be repaired by right clicking on the system tray icon and restarting the network card.
I can live with that, but I like Vista. So, running Vista I lose the connection, right click and select Diagnose and Repair. However, to try and keep the connection continuous I played around and no longer receive this option.
Instead, Diagnose and Repair doesn't give me anything that works. At some point, I put a newer Belkin wireless card in the desktop and things appeared to improve, but they seem to be back how they were again. I've turned off the Vista firewall, as recommended on the Netgear website, but it still keeps happening.
Interestingly, when the connection goes, I can still try and connect to a neighbours network, obviously I don't know the network key - but I assume that means it isn't as problem with my network card. Since then I've changed network security to the ones mentioned above and they don't seem to have affected my connectivity at all - still tha same problem.
I've also noticed that turning on my PDA, I sometimes lose my connection on the desktop. Any suggestions? Does anyone know how to do that? I can't find it on Google, and I'm normally able to find what I'm looking for. Thanks, in advance,.

Or just try different channels. To be completely non interfering the difference in channel numbers must be at least 5. What I don't get is why the router won't let Vista reconnect without restarting the computer.
Right click on it and select 'Start' is the usual way. News Local News. Actions Facebook Tweet Email. Woman missing after leaving Vista senior living facility. By: City News Service. Due to health concerns, she is considered a missing person at risk, Milligan said.
