Place the ZIP file in a folder that you want the tools to be located in. Extract the ZIP file. Double-click the ZIP file after you've placed it in its folder and click the "Extract" option.
This will display a list of available SDK tools. This is the only software you'll need for unlocking your bootloader. Click Install. Download and install the USB drivers for device. You'll be able to find these on the support page of your device's manufacturer's website. Make sure to download the drivers that match your device's model. Open the platform-tools folder in the folder your SDK tools are in.
This folder was created when you installed the SDK software. Make sure you right-click in a blank spot. Click Open command window here. A Command Prompt window will appear already set to the correct location. You should see your device's serial number.
Scroll to the bottom and tap About phone. Tap the Build Number entry seven times. This will enable the Developer Options menu. Return to Settings and tap Developer Options. Enable OEM unlocking if present. Not all phones will display this option, and it is only necessary if it is there.
Enable USB debugging. This allows you to send commands to your Android through ADB. Open your device manufacturer's unlock code procedure instructions. The following process will vary depending on your phone manufacturer. Be sure to follow the instructions they provide exactly.
What follows here is a general guide. Reboot your device into the fastboot menu. The process for this will vary depending on your device, but generally you'll need to turn off your phone and then hold Power and Volume Down for 10 seconds. Type the unlock key retrieval command in ADB. This command is different for every manufacturer. Make sure your Android device is still connected to your computer and the Command Prompt window is open from the platform-tools folder.
Copy the device ID code. You'll see a long code appear on the screen, and it may be broken up into several lines. Click and drag to highlight the entire code. Submit your device ID code to the manufacturer. Use the bootloader unlock code request form to submit your code and request your unlock code. This can take a week or two, depending on the manufacturer. Run the command specified by your manufacturer. When you receive your unlock code, you'll be given the command to use to apply it to your device.
This command varies depending on the manufacturer. Your Android will need to be connected to your computer and in fastboot mode. For Nexus devices, run fastboot oem unlock , or fastboot flashing unlock for the Nexus 5X and newer. The command for your manufacturer may be different.
Confirm that you want to unlock. You may be prompted by your phone to confirm the unlock. Type fastboot reboot on your computer. This command will reboot your device and exit fastboot mode. Look for the Bootloader Unlocked message. You'll see this message every time you turn on your device as a security measure. Make sure your device boots completely into the Android operating system as normal.
You're now ready to install a custom recovery. Find and follow a device-specific guide if you can't unlock the bootloader. If your manufacturer or carrier will not allow you to unlock the bootloader, your only other option is to find and use an exploit to bypass it. This process is different for every phone model, and some phones simply cannot be unlocked at all.
The best place to get started are the XDA Forums. Find your phone model and look for any bootloader unlocks released by the community. When performing an unlock using an exploit, be sure to follow every step in the XDA thread exactly, as the risk for bricking your device increases dramatically when not using official methods. Part 2. Visit the TWRP website. Click the Devices tab. Verify that your device is supported. If your device is not on this list, try a different recovery environment like CWM.
Note that while your device might be supported, your carrier or region may not. Click the link for your device. This will display more details for your specific device.
Click the Download link. Place it in the same location as your ADB binary files. Rename the file to twrp. This will make it easy to enter the name during the transfer. Type adb reboot bootloader in the Command Prompt. Select "Open command window here. Type fastboot flash recovery twrp. This will copy the TWRP image file to your Android device and replace your current recovery environment with it.

I want to clean installation with custom rom, i wanted to use the 16gb except few gb for custom rom bcos the custom rom files takes probably mb, and after installation may be it take gb i guess…is there any way to maximum space in my phone?? I mean does it really take that long? You must have made some mistake. Also, you did not mention your device model. I have rooted my device. I have google for cwm recovery for my phone but failed to get the appropriate one. Hi there. If i may ask. I have a thl w phone which is a china brand, and i have a firmware version of thl w but the custom rom that i want to flash is based on thl w with this should i change my firmware or is it ok to flash this..
So do I have to place the backed up ROM to an external drive? If it lies on yhe internal storage, move it to the ext sorage first. You can also keep a copy of it on your computer. So u meant to move it to computer then? Yes, copy it it to the computer too. Before installing the ROM, wipe only data, cache and system. Do not touch the storage and it will be alright. So I might have lots of questions on customization, and it seems like u know lots about this stuff.
So can I like ask u any question about Android. Hi, I have flashed the phone but its not rebooting it showing green lead charging how long it will take to reboot. After reading some other web site it says require CWM 6. Now, my backup image is hanging. Where can I get the latest version of CWM and how do i upgrade it? Can someone please help me, I tried to install cm11 m2 release on my galaxy s3 t-mobile and every time I try to install the rom or the Google apps it says E: cannot open … bad installation aborted.
Now none of my recent backups work either they all say md5 mismatch! One should always ensure ample battery before performing such things. Did you try connecting the device to a charger? Yeah… it just light the green led but it does not appear to be charging. If you somehow manage to get it replaced, the problem can be resolved. I am very new to dis flashing the roms.
I have tried to flash my samsung galaxy pop usin the steps u have discussed above. Every thing was alright untill it is rebooted. I need some help! What can i do! I have a S4 and my CWM is v6. Please help! Okay, try this: pull out the battery and put it back after a minute. Copy the ROM file to sd card and reinsert it in the phone. Now boot in CWM and you know what to do then. Next time be careful while doing such things. No, it just wipes the system apps, audio and configuration files.
System here means the partition of your internal storage that keeps system file. You can find another option for that. Then how would I install a ROM? Then what? Wiping SD will delete all data from user memory, not system memory. The line you have quoted, I am talking about avoid using apps that backup app data too. Backing up the APKs and restoring them does not pose any problem. I want to go to the stock ROM.
I also want to release it from its freezing mechanism. I already removed them but still there are some issues. All suck and still I have the freezing technique, but today it became less.
Same problem here. Tried to instal CM, Omega rom and they freeze every minute! I cannot understand why i cannot install a new rom without problems after this! Did you find a solution? Actually, I found one. I turned off my phone for about 5 days and then I tried it again and restored the original OEM TouchWiz and it was smooth as butter.
Question about IMEI saving. No, that is not normal. It loads into recovery mode, but not download mode. I lost the IMEI no. Please help. To reboot the device, try wiping data factory reset and cache partition in recovery mode.
I have Samsung Galaxy note 1 running on Android 4. I have rooted the phone and installed ROM manager. I am newbi,so tell me where to look for custome recovery and If no then how to create it. Hi, I have just installed custom Rom Xperia z ized on my note 1 but it caught in bootloop. I have done all the things which is required for installing the new rom. Kindly help if you have any solution for that?? If i cant fix this in the next few days im going to try going back to the stock samsung rom.
It might be due to a bug in the nightly version as they are experimental in nature. Try the stable release to ensure if it is really a Kernel issue. Also, has your device a custom kernel or the stock one?
I have rooted my phone, but performance is still same I understand that but I am still novice in flashing custom ROM and scared that I may brick my phone. Please suggest a detailed steps that I need to do to improve performance. Thanks much! Sir,i want to root galaxy S2 internatioanal version running on indian stock 4. Do you guys know where to find it? The location depends on your selection of storage while backing it up.
Can you see the backup file when you try to restore a ROM? I read in forums that it uses adb to pull it out. Do you know the command? Install a root file manager and search the system root, it should be somewhere on the phone. Since I do not have my Ace now, I am not sure about it.

Turn on the computer. Open My Computer and you will see the drive. I am trying to install a library cd-rom for research. Now the computer will not even register that I have put the disc in. What can I do?
